Sepsis remains one of the most significant patient safety challenges facing healthcare systems and continues to be a major cause of preventable harm, morbidity and mortality.
The Action on Sepsis: Five-Year Strategy (2026–2030) sets out a comprehensive, system-wide plan to improve:
- sepsis prevention
- early recognition
- treatment
- support for sepsis survivors across adult, maternity, paediatric and community services
The Strategy, grounded in Irish data and international best practice has been developed by the National Clinical Programme for Sepsis and National Quality and Patient Safety team.
It reflects the core principles of the:
- HSE Patient Safety Strategy (2019 - 2024)
- HSE Corporate Plan (2025 - 2027), and the
- priorities of Sláintecare
The strategy will be launched virtually by the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll McNeill and will include stories from people who have experienced and survived sepsis.
