This procedure applies to all Assessment Officers and clinicians involved in the Assessment of Need process. It is the policy of the Health Service Executive that the procedures outlined below for the Assessment of Need process are adhered to by all Assessment Officers and assessors.

The purpose of this procedure is to ensure that there is a consistent approach to managing requests for a statutory Assessment of Need and processing the resulting referrals. It should be read in conjunction with the HSE National Policy on Access to Services for Children and Young People with Disability and Developmental Delay.
