Evidence-based recommendations for the care of women with Stress Urinary Incontinence, as well as promoting a standardised approach nationally across all maternity units and general hospitals where gynaecological services are in place.
This National Clinical Practice Guideline sets out evidence-based recommendations for the assessment, investigation and management of stress urinary incontinence in women across Irish healthcare services, including primary care and specialist urogynaecology/urology. It emphasises detailed history, pelvic examination and basic investigations, conservative first-line treatment, and clear criteria for specialist referral and urodynamics before surgery. The guideline standardises indications and options for surgical management (including mesh and non-mesh procedures), mandates informed consent and use of national registers, and requires delivery of care within multidisciplinary teams with structured implementation and audit.
