HSE National Policy

National policy for Children's Disability Network Teams on family engagement and attendance

Topic: Supporting and managing engagement and attendance of children and families with children's disability network teams
Document Owner: Assistant National Director Access & Integration Children’s Disability Services
National Group: HSE Access and Integration – Children’s Disability Services
Effective From: 11 May 2021
This policy outlines steps for the Children’s Disability Network Teams to promote engagement to families with the service and address any issues of missed appointments.

Children’s Disability Network Teams provide services for children and their families. Some families may find it difficult to engage fully and the team will try to support them as best they can. This may include appointments in the centre, home, school or community and using in person, telephone, video call or online support.

However, where the team has concerns that there is a consistent pattern of missed appointments or refusal of an intervention which may impact on the child’s health and well-being, they will apply the steps in this policy.
