We’ve made it easier for people to request their BowelScreen home-test kit. People can now request their home-test kit online when they are invited to take part for the first time.
What we did
We’ve improved our online BowelScreen register. It’s easy to use, mobile-friendly, and makes BowelScreen more accessible to everyone.
Why we did it
We wanted to offer even more ways for people to engage with us. As well as being able to request a home-test kit by phone or email, people can now do this online. It’s more convenient and can be done at any time, offering more flexibility.
Benefits to screening participants
These new developments enhance the online experience for people who choose screening. BowelScreen is for everyone aged 58 to 70.
If you’ve been invited to take part, you can use the online register to:
- request your free home-test kit when you’re invited for the first time
- confirm that you want to take part in BowelScreen
- check if you’re already on the register
- check your contact details and update them if you’ve moved address
- find out when your next screening is due.
User-friendly and accessible
We designed the register with users in mind from the start.
It’s:
- easy to get to – use a QR code or a short, easy-to-remember website name
- easy to access – you can use it on your phone, tablet or computer
- easy to understand – with clear, simple language
- easy to use - with clear steps to guide you.
Quick access
You can get to the register by:
- scanning the QR code on your invitation letter
- visiting hse.ie/bowelscreen
Once there, all you need is your:
- PPS number
- date of birth
- COR ID number (which is in your BowelScreen letter)
- your GP details if you want your GP involved (optional)
Improving equity in screening
We’re helping to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to benefit from bowel screening by giving people more choice in how to take part. It’s another step we’re taking to improve equity in screening.
Continuous improvement
This is just one part of our ongoing work to make screening more accessible, more equitable, and easier to take part in.
Our improvements are in line with the HSE digital strategy to transform our health services, making them more modern and accessible.
The improved register is designed to grow with us. It’s built to handle increased use when we run awareness campaigns, as our population grows, and as we continue to extend the eligible age range and more people join the BowelScreen programme.
These improvements also help us to keep our records up to date, so we can communicate more effectively with our screening participants.
It’s one more way for eligible people to take part in BowelScreen and to help increase uptake of bowel screening.
