National Screening Service shortlisted for five Irish Healthcare Awards in 2025

We’ve been shortlisted in five categories for the 2025 Irish Healthcare Awards:

  • Excellence in healthcare management: our BreastCheck programme achieved re-certification from EUREF - the European Reference Organisation for Quality Assured Breast Screening and Diagnostic Services, recognising excellence in service delivery. Level 4 is the highest level of accreditation and provides independent external reassurance of the high quality of our breast screening programme.
  • Healthcare education event of the year: our 2024 national CervicalCheck conference brought together, for the first time, all key partners across Ireland’s cervical screening services for a full day of learning. Grounded in the theme ‘Fostering partnerships in cervical screening’, the event was designed to be an inclusive, educational and collaborative event, creating a vital space for open dialogue among primary care providers, colposcopy teams, histopathology experts, our two screening laboratories, and international and national leaders in the field.
  • Cross border initiative / International collaboration of the year: as part of a World Health Organization (WHO) mission we travelled to Uzbekistan to share Ireland’s experience of eye screening for people with diabetes, to support the country with establishing a pilot population-based diabetic retinal screening programme.
  • Public Health initiative of the year: in response to the WHO’s global movement to eliminate cervical cancer, we’ve established a strategic partnership and co-developed Ireland’s Cervical Cancer Elimination Plan 2025-2030.
  • Nursing and midwifery project of the year: our CervicalCheck Screening Training Unit has built a resilient, responsive and future-focused cervical screening education model. Our CervicalCheck Education Strategy 2022-2025 is driven by a shared commitment to improving the quality, consistency and accessibility of cervical screening education in Ireland.

Our Chief Executive, Fiona Murphy said: “It’s great to see so much of our excellent work being acknowledged. Each shortlisted project reflects our strategic focus on delivering high-quality services, strengthening partnerships, driving service improvements, and maintaining operational excellence. This recognition is a credit to the outstanding efforts of our staff and partners, and I wish everyone the best of luck on the night.”

The winners will be announced at an event in the Clayton Hotel, Dublin on Tuesday 4 November 2025.
