We’re launching a free 4-part research webinar series to support Ireland’s work towards eliminating cervical cancer.
The webinar series will bring together researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers and others with an interest in cervical cancer prevention and elimination.
The series will showcase research from universities and the HSE, covering topics ranging from behavioural science and health equity to healthcare innovation and data-driven approaches.
About the webinar series
Ireland is making significant progress in cervical cancer prevention through HPV vaccination and cervical screening. High-quality research supports this progress.
Research plays a vital role in helping us:
- understand factors that influence participation in HPV vaccination and cervical screening
- identify barriers that can prevent people from accessing services
- explore innovative approaches to improve uptake and experience
- use data and evidence to guide decision-making and measure progress
- strengthen collaboration across research, policy and practice.
This free webinar series aims to share current research, encourage discussion and build connections between those working towards the common goal of cervical cancer elimination in Ireland.
Each one-hour webinar will include:
- two research presentations
- live discussion and Q&A with presenters and fellow attendees.

Wednesday 23 September 2026: Using behavioural science to understand screening and vaccination decisions
This webinar will explore factors that influence uptake of HPV vaccination and cervical screening.
Presentations include:
- research into cervical screening attendance among women of lower socioeconomic position
- research examining HPV vaccination among gay and bisexual men.
Wednesday 7 October 2026: Equity, inclusion and access
This session will focus on how barriers to HPV vaccination and cervical screening can be addressed to improve access for everyone.
Presentations include:
- research on organised cervical screening among gender minorities
- a review of factors influencing HPV vaccination uptake in disadvantaged areas.
Wednesday 21 October 2026: Healthcare professionals: innovation in screening and vaccination
This webinar will highlight the important role of healthcare professionals in supporting cervical cancer prevention.
Presentations include:
- strategies used by healthcare professionals to increase HPV vaccine uptake among adolescents in Ireland
- research exploring sample takers' views on HPV self-sampling for cervical screening in Ireland.
Wednesday 28 October 2026: Using data to support elimination
The final webinar will examine how data and evidence can support progress towards elimination.
Topics include:
- the impact of HPV vaccine misinformation and disinformation in disadvantaged educational settings
- research on the impact of HPV vaccination on cervical screening outcomes among women attending CervicalCheck for the first time.
